A Healthy Life Living with Diabetes

Healthy eating and diabetes

Healthy eating is an important part of managing your type 2 diabetes. You may not always have to follow a special menu, but you should try to make smart decisions about what you eat. Follow the healthy eating recommendations of your diabetes care team.
You may also find these general guidelines helpful.
  • Eat a variety of healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables,
  • lean meats (like poultry and fish), and beans for protein
  • Balance the number of calories you eat with your activity level
  • Choose foods rich in whole grains, vegetables, and fruits
  • Limit your intake of saturated fats, cholesterol, salt, and added sugar
Here are some delicious, diabetes-friendly recipes the whole family can enjoy.
They've been reviewed by Diabetes Care and Education,
a dietetic practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
